Recreated 1st Hunterdon Militia Regiment
As members of the recreated First Hunterdon Militia Regiment, we strive to bring history to "life" so to speak, by researching and presenting our impressions to the public based on what we have learned. Our inspiration comes from the amazingly rich history that exists here in our own back yards in Mercer County, New Jersey.
New Jersey has sometimes been called the "cockpit of the American Revolution" due to the many important events that occurred there during the Revolution. Stories abound of battles, heroism, perseverance, and commitment to a cause. Indeed, the events that occurred there in 1776 especially have quite literally changed the world. But while we can read the names and places involved, and we can read of the battles, it sometimes escapes notice that many of these men were not soldiers at all in the modern sense of the word. They were farmers, smiths, physicians, some were even students at university. What they accomplished together in those dark days is nothing short of astounding. By doing what we do, we hope to bring attention and appreciation of this remarkable era of history.
